Welcome to The Hard Peel!

Blog and recovery resource for adults healing from Childhood Trauma.

Disclaimer

Childhood trauma is real, and healing is too. That’s what The Hard Peel is here for. Through storytelling, reflection, and softness, we’re peeling back layers of pain to make room for compassion and healing. It isn’t linear or tidy; it’s layered, raw, and real. It takes patience, consistency, and commitment.

The Hard Peel Infographic-Understanding Childhood Trauma

Roots: Neglect, abuse, lack of emotional safety during childhood, instability in home, caregiving, or environment, unresolved stress or repeated exposure to fear.

Impact: Difficulty with boundaries and trust, hypervigilance or emotional shutdown, chronic shame, guilt, and self-blame, health symptoms like fatigue or pain.

Healing: Naming what happened without minimizing, building emotional safety and healthy relationships, creating comfort and connection, seeking supportive tools: therapy, affirmations, inner child work.

Hi, I’m Ash, daughter, writer, photographer and quiet witness to complicated kinds of love. I created The Hard Peel not just to share my story, but to curate a space where truth can unfold without guilt or shame. My words come from personal “peeling”. Uncovering layers of guilt, shame, and resistance formed in my early years that have negative impacts in my adult life. What I offer here isn’t resolution, but connection. The Hard Peel is for anyone relearning safety, rewriting identity, or reaching for a language that feels like home.
